Ailments Treated with Cimzia

This solution is mostly used on patients with:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Axial spondyloarthritis
  • Psoriatic arthritis
  • Plaque psoriasis

It can also be used to target other diseases as well.

How does Cimzia work?

Cimzia is a type of prescription medication that is called a TNF, or tumor necrosis factor blocker, which is used to lessen the signs and symptoms of the aforementioned diseases and ailments. Mostly it reduces a substance found in the body which causes inflammation. This solution is supplied inside a sterile, lyophilized powder with 1 ml sterile water for the injection, USP, with a deliverable volume of 1ml(200mg) and a final concentration of 200mg/ml.

Treatment Details

Cimzia’s use on adults with rheumatoid arthritis has an initial dosage of 400mg, and is given subcutaneously in two injections of 200mg each, spaced at two weeks apart. 200mg of the solution is then subcutaneously injected every other week, and for those patients who have obtained a clinical response, will receive a maintenance dose of 400mg every four weeks. The injection sites should rotate, and it should not be injected in tender areas, or parts of the skin that are hard, bruised, or red. When a 400mg dose is needed with 2 injections containing 200mg each, they should occur in different sites in the abdomen or thigh. For other dosage or application instructions for other ailments, please consult a leaflet or the package insert.

How long does Cimzia last?

Solutions like Cimzia or other anti-TNF drugs are used over a period of 6-12 weeks, wherein the inflammation and other symptoms are observed to improve.
