How does Nevanac work?
Nepafenac belongs to the group of medications known as NSAIDs, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. These medications combat symptoms and reduce the pain, swelling, and inflammation that are a result of cataract surgery. This solution can actually also be used both before and after surgery. Each 1ml of Nevanac contains 1mg nepafenac at 0.1%, as well as mannitol, carbomer 974P, tyloxapol, edetate disodium, sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide, and hydrochloric acid for pH adjustment. It will also have purified water and the preservative benzalkonium chloride at 0.005%.
Treatment Details
Patient needs to ensure that their hands are clean or sanitized before applying this medication properly. The tip of the tube should not touch the eye, or any other surface of the body. The patient should tilt their head back, look up, and then pull down the lower eyelid of the affected eye/s. One drop of the solution should be placed on each affected eye, and then the patient must close their eyes for 2 to 3 minutes. The eye should not be rubbed. The patient should not use medication with contact lenses on, and the lenses should be put back in after 15 minutes have passed after application.
How long does Nevanac last?
The medication should be repeated as often and for as long as the doctor recommends.
Safety Information
Any patients who have demonstrated hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients in Nevanac, or any other NSAID should not use it. Patients should also avoid the solution if they have developed asthma, itching, or a runny nose after taking NSAIDs or ASA. If a missed dose were to happen, the patient should not double-dose to make up for it.

Recovery Time
