Description

Synvisc

Buy Synvisc for your patients who need some help with pain from osteoarthritis. Also known as Synvisc Classic, this product is a biodegradable, viscoelastic, orthopedic injection specifically designed to soothe or outright get rid of the painful symptoms caused by the most common type of arthritis.

What makes a good candidate?

Technically Synvisc is a product that those who suffer from pain caused by osteoarthritis are good candidates, but this formulation was specifically developed for those who have tried other forms of treatment like analgesics, rehabilitation support items, and physiotherapy, and have not gotten the results that they wanted.

Areas Treated with Synvisc

This product targets pain in areas like the hips, shoulders, ankles, and knees, which are the more common culprits in relation to osteoarthritis pain.

How does Synvisc work?

There are three classifications of joints in the body, namely fibrous joints, cartilaginous joints, and synovial joints. These were listed in order from least to most mobile, with fibrous joints being totally immobile. Synovial joints, however, are the highly mobile joints with these types of joints being the ones that are most likely attacked by osteoarthritis pain.

The fluid found in between synovial joints will degrade over time, which is more often than not the actual cause of pain for osteoarthritis patients. Synvisc, which is made up of hyaluronan, sodium chloride, disodium hydrogen phosphate, and sodium dihydrogen phosphate hydrate, has very similar viscoelasticity to the actual synovial fluid. Once this is injected into the areas with pain, they replenish the fluid that is lost or is no longer functioning as it should, making movements more smooth and less painful.

Treatment Details

Only trained medical professionals are allowed to apply this product onto patients. Make sure that the packaging is intact and the gel is at room temperature before injection. Sanitize the treatment area, and make sure to remove any excess synovial fluid or effusion from the target joint. Attach and secure a 18G to 22G needle to the syringe and inject all 2ml of the syringe into the synovial space of the joint. For knee joints, one syringe a week for three weeks, with a maximum dosage of 6 injections in 6 months with a 4-week minimum break between sessions is recommended. Other joints, administer a single initial injection, and if it is not enough, administer the second injection 1 to 3 months after. Make sure to adhere to aseptic standards, and not to inject into the blood vessels.

How long does Synvisc last?

This will vary depending on the patient’s lifestyle and physiology, but on average will last between 6 to 12 months.
